Name: Ric Garcia
Location: Washington DC area.
Bio: Ric Garcia was raised in Miami, Florida. He earned a BFA in visual design and illustration from the University of Miami. Ric relocated to the DC metro area, in 2002 and is a visual designer for the Smithsonian Institution. In 2008 he began to create a body of work upon completing a four-year self guided study program, with a focus on painting and drawing. Ric began to produce short edition digital prints in 2010. His work is part of private and public collections and has been exhibited throughout the metro DC area.
Artist Statement: I think of my work as building upon the legacy of pop art to present ideas about cultural assimilation, consumer culture, gender stereotypes in society and my experiences as a bi-cultural American. I challenge myself to create imagery that is thoughtful with a light hearted flair.
